Basic Algebra The Laws of Algebra Terminology and Notation. In this section we review the notations used in algebra. Some are peculiar to this book. For example the notation A:= B indicates that the equality holds by de nition of the notations involved. Two other notations which will become important when we solve equations are =) and (). Pre-Algebra - Fractions Objective: Reduce, add, subtract, multiply, and divide with fractions. Working with fractions is a very important foundation to algebra. Here we will briefly review reducing, multiplying, dividing, adding, and subtracting fractions. As this is a review, concepts will not be explained in detail as other lessons are.

Well, I just finished a linear algebra course using David C Lay's book. Thinking to go deeper on the subject. I am never good with proofs, so I actually prefer books that may build some skills on that. On that regard, the book perhaps should be fairly rigorous. Right now I have several. Most students taking a course in linear algebra will have completed courses in di erential and integral calculus, and maybe also multivariate calculus, and will typically be second-year students in university. This level of mathematical maturity is expected, however there is little or no requirement to know calculus itself to use this book File Size: 2MB.

Most of the book is questions. I wouldn't recommend this as your only abstract algebra book though. As always with books the first 1 or 2 chapters are mind-numbingly boring and tedious but after that it gets good. I would recommend another "hand-holding" book (write me a comment if you want to know what it is, I think it's called "essentials of /5().
